This intensive training program empowers primary care clinicians to assess, treat and manage common mental health concerns in their practice. The training series is a seven-week program that includes the 1½day training and six follow-up sessions. It is presented by Project TEACH’s faculty of child and adolescent psychiatrists and pediatricians. Offered via Zoom, this virtual program is designed to provide practical information, specifically for PCCs, to address mild-to-moderate mental health concerns. While medication management will be addressed, a comprehensive approach to treatment will be discussed.
Module Topics:
- Trauma-Informed Care: Recognizing the importance of trauma and what to do in the primary care setting.
- Depression: Screening, diagnosis and management in the primary care setting.
- Anxiety: Screening, diagnosis and management in the primary care setting.
- Reimbursement & Implementation: Ensuring appropriate payment for mental health services in a primary care setting.
- ADHD: Screening, diagnosis and management in the primary care setting.
- Aggression: Understanding, assessing and addressing aggression in children and adolescents.
Target Audience
This program is intended for: New York State physicians, residents, psychiatrists, psychologists, NPs, PAs, nurses, and social workers and staff affiliated with PCC offices.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the behaviors resulting from trauma that require treatment, and evaluate the treatment options for children and adolescents.
- Assess depression in youth, and evaluate the treatment options for children and adolescents, including an assessment of the black box warning for SSRIs.
- Differentiate common anxiety disorders and describe their assessments and treatment.
- Appropriate billing codes for Mental Health Visits in pediatric care.
- Recognize the presentation, diagnosis, comorbidity, neurobiology, and current treatment options available for individuals with ADHD.
- Treat and manage aggression in children and adolescents.
